Pakistan-origin Lord Ahmad appointed as UK Foreign Office’s Minister of State

A Pakistan-origin British peer has been selected to serve as UK Foreign Office’s Minister of State. His new role was announced on June 13th, 2017 as Prime Minister Theresa May finished reshuffling the cabinet.

Before his appointment as Minister of State, Lord Ahmad served as Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Transport, while from 2015 to 2016 he served as Minister for Countering Extremism.

Lord Ahmad is a successful businessman who was educated at Rutlish School and London South Bank University (LSBU) as well as the Chartered Institute of Financial Services. Before his political career, he worked for the NatWest Group where he was a senior manager in corporate banking and financial markets. He was later Vice-President and Marketing Director of Alliance Bernstein and his last role before joining the government was as Strategy and Marketing Director at Sucden Financial.
