Warfare and Nano Technology

Nano technology has been applied from healing of wounds to sensors, filtration systems, and has also been used to create lighter, stronger, heat-resistant Nano composite materials.

Nano technology is a fascinating topic and has captured interest of both military and commercial industries. According to sources it’s just for non defensive purposes. A report by the U.S. Department of Defence (DOD) defence nanotechnology research and development program stated that they never use the word explosive or ammunition efficiency modification in nanotechnology.

But that doesn’t mean that the military is not researching on nanotechnology applications, effectively for blowing up more stuff faster and quicker. United States and Russia might as well be secretly experimenting on nano technology for potential use in the military.

Nano technology driven Chemical and biological weapons are far more effective than ordinary explosives as the delivery mechanism is enhanced, Ability of Nano particles to penetrate the human body and its cells make biological and chemical warfare much more feasible, easier and direct against specific groups or individuals.

A recent publication by French-German research Institute of Saint Louis France described that they had prepared energetic Nano composites with different infiltrating a porous chromium oxide matrix with high explosive dissolved in acetone.

United States MOAB (Massive Ordnance Air Burst ) has unofficially been interpreted as Mother Of All Bombs while its Russian counterpart (Unnamed) 6 ton bomb based on Nano-technology which up till now has no known official name has been dubbed Father of All Bombs by its designers.

It contains about seven tons of high explosives compared with more than eight for the MOAB but is four times more powerful than MOAB because it uses a new type of explosive developed with the use of nanotechnology. “Test results of the new airborne weapon have shown that its efficiency and power is commensurate with a nuclear weapon,” Gen Alexander Rukshin.

Russian deputy armed forces chief of staff have said that: It has “no match in the world”.

Explosives release loads of energy in matter of Milli seconds by the rapid oxidation of organic matter bu the use of Nano technology increases the surface area of the explosive particles which leads to more rapid oxidation.
