Highlighting attacks and mistreatment of minorities in Pakistan – particularly Ahmadiyya Muslims – several MPs have asked the UK government to review aid to Pakistan to ensure it is not misused to promote religious intolerance. Participating in a debate in the House of Commons on “Persecution of Religious Minorities: Pakistan”, more than 15 MPs recalled the plight of Christians, Sikhs and Hindus along with that of the Ahmadiyya Muslim community in the country to seek a review of aid.
United Kingdom’s North Lincolnshire Council’s planning committee has approved plans to build a new mosque in Scunthorpe despite a number of objections from local Muslim groups. The application was passed by a majority verdict. Phil Wallis, head of planning, said the council had received two petitions – one with 55 signatures objecting to the development and one with 499 objecting on the grounds of design concerns about traffic and parking.
The local government on Indonesian Island of Bangka is currently expelling members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, after it issued a letter demanding that they either convert to Sunni Islam or face expulsion. The letter, dated Jan. 5 urged members of Ahmadiyya Muslim Community in the Srimenanti subdistrict, Sungailiat district, to convert to the mainstream Sunni teachings of the Indonesian Muslim majority or face expulsion from the regency. Four years ago, Asif Khan took his wife and two children and fled Pakistan, where as an Ahmadiyya Muslim he was part of a heavily persecuted minority group. Two Pakistani clerics have come to blows at a meeting of the religious establishment over the fraught issue of the status of Ahmadis, a Muslim sect that hardliners want declared apostates. A tiny Indonesian province has banned a minority Islamic sect from conducting religious activities, a move activists say raises concerns over intolerance in the Muslim-majority nation. The move by Bangka-Belitung, made up of two main islands off South Sumatra, is the latest in a series in which religious minorities including Christians and Shi’ite Muslims have faced harassment and complained of a lack of protection.

They discussed a range of issues including the protection of minority rights, religious tolerance and how to sustain the prevailing peace and stability of the country.
An Australian man will turn to the Australian Government for help after his 81-year-old Ahmadi Muslim father was imprisoned in Pakistan last month. Khalid Ahmad’s father, Abdul Shakoor, who owns a bookshop in Pakistan where the Ahmadi faith is outlawed, made international headlines when he was jailed for eight years in December for selling books deemed hurtful or hateful to another religious group’s beliefs.
An Ahmadi man was killed in Chenab Nagar (Rabwa), the headquarters of Jamaat-e-Ahmadiyya, late on Monday. Bilal Ahmed, 26, was an active member and paid worker of Ahmadiyya Muslim Community. In an odd move Indian Muslim leaders have criticized Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for sending greetings to Muslims. In a letter written on 21st December 2015 Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised Ahmadiyya Muslim Community for its religious tolerance and universal brotherhood. He wished success to ‘Khilafat-e-Ahmadiyya Centenary’ celebrations which are taking place in Qadian this month. Thousands of Pakistani Ahmadis are also taking part in the celebrations.
