The 8th International Masroor cricket tournament got underway on Thursday May 19th in London. 12 teams from Asia, Europe and America are taking part in the 4 day tournament. Ahmadiyya Muslims join relief efforts in quake-hit Kumamoto region of Japan

Muslims from one of Japan’s oldest Muslim Community have joined relief activities following two deadly quakes that hit southern Japan. On Saturday a 7.3 magnitude quake shook the city of Kumamoto, which had previously been hit by a magnitude-6.4 quake on Thursday night. According to local media reports over 9 people died in the first earthquake, and 33 in the second. Sources says at least 150,000 people have been displaced and are in need of accommodation and food. Ahmadi Muslim Yunusjan Abdujalilov was murdered December 2015 in front of his home in the village of Kashkar Kyshtak in Osh Region of Kyrgyzstan. Police arrested six members of the Kyrgz branch of Jama’at al-Tawhid wal-Jihad, a religious extremist movement affiliated with ISIS in Syria. British Muslims object to construction of a new Mosque

United Kingdom’s North Lincolnshire Council’s planning committee has approved plans to build a new mosque in Scunthorpe  despite a number of objections from local Muslim groups. The application was passed by a majority verdict. Phil Wallis, head of planning, said the council had received two petitions – one with 55 signatures objecting to the development and one with 499 objecting on the grounds of design concerns about traffic and parking.

Pakistani clerics fight over status of Ahmadiyya sect

Two Pakistani clerics have come to blows at a meeting of the religious establishment over the fraught issue of the status of Ahmadis, a Muslim sect that hardliners want declared apostates. A scuffle broke out on Tuesday between the two at a gathering of Pakistan’s Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) when the chairman, Mohammad Khan Sherani, called on the group to consider whether Ahmadis, who are declared non-Muslims by the constitution, should be considered murtads that have rejected Islam.
